The Bridegroom of Blood and Glory

And You, my Lord, lifted high upon the Cross,

embracing all of humanity, receiving the sword in Your heart on its behalf.

Stripped of Your garments, yet from Your body radiates purity, and You clothe the universe in its perfection.

Slain by more than six hundred wounds upon Your sacred flesh, carrying within them the doses of our healing from every disease.

And by the blood and water flowing from Your tender chest, the seventh font is filled —

transforming our joy into fullness, and our wedding feast into a true union,

as You are majestically lifted upon the Cross… a wine whose taste is eternity.

And as You draw Your final breaths,

You proclaim, with a mighty, resounding voice, psalms of love,

revealing through them the truth of our death —

which is nothing but our separation from You.

For true death comes when we part from You and find ourselves in Gethsemane,

as though in a barren wilderness, where our sweat turns to blood,

signifying an inevitable, eternal death.

Yes, even as You exhale, You grant us the breath of the Holy Spirit,

reviving our decayed souls, softening our hardened hearts,

and quenching the thirst of our dry, desolate deserts.

**Abandoned between earth and heaven,

in a masterpiece of love and glory,

we behold Your Bride — the Church — reflected in Mary, her mirror,

and in the beloved disciple, as she is presented to You a pure, spotless Bride,

whom You redeemed with Your precious blood,

with Mary’s tears, with the agony of motherhood,

with the mourning of the sun, and the loneliness of exile

within the heart of beloved John.

On this great and wondrous day, in which we recall Your miraculous redemption,

I long to cry out with all my strength before the countless multitudes of earth, declaring:

I am a sinner, a wretch, my soul sorrowful even unto death.

I beg for a drop of Your blood to give life to my earthen body and my lost soul.

Have mercy on me, O God, in the greatness of Your compassion,

and deem me worthy to renew my baptism beneath the drops of Your precious blood.

May I renounce the devil all the days of my life,

and let my life become a hymn of Your glory,

a love song for You, a disciple of Your Most Sacred Heart,

an ascent from the dust of my emptiness to the fullness of Your divine stature.

O Mighty Crucified One, Risen from the dead,

shatter the door of my tomb that I may pulse with life once more,

and let a new humanity be built —

one where each person loves his brother,

where no one is slain, neither by word, nor torture, nor prison, nor sword.

May love strike deep into our hearts, restoring their beat,

surpassing their bleeding, barrenness, blindness, frailty, leprosy, and paralysis —

that they may rise from their death and proclaim:

‘Truly, Christ is Risen — He is truly Risen —

and we, His redeemed Bride, are witnesses of His Resurrection.’

To Him be glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
